Please don't camp in the dune area at the beach. This is an area of conservation.
Fanore is beautiful, very scenic, surrounded by the Burren, but it is a little quiet. 1 pub, 1 restaurant, 1 coffee shop, 1 shop, and beautiful countryside...all you need really! If you want a chilled out surf weekend away from the city and the crowds it's perfect. So like I said, it depends on what you're looking for.
What a lot of people who come to surf with us do is stay in Doolin. It's only 15 minutes drive down the road and has a lot more options when it comes to accommodation. Hostels to Hotels, a bunch of places to eat and 3 of the best traditional Irish music pubs in Ireland. You're guaranteed plenty of craic at night in Doolin. Then only a 10 minute drive for the surfing hangover cure in the morning!
If you're coming to Doolin without transport, get a group of min. 4 people together, and we'll come pick you up and drop you off after surfing at no extra cost!
If you want the hostel/budget option, here's a few numbers..
- One we can recommend is the Aille River Hostel - (065) 707 4260
- Another good one is Paddys - (065) 707 4006
- Nice too is the Rainbow Hostel - (065) 707 4415
Price wise it depends on what type of room you get, but it's generally around 18 euros p/p. Like before, give them a call to check..
For B&B or if you want to rent an apartment, a place we can recommend is the Doolin Activity Lodge. They do B&B and have a couple of large apartments that can cater for big groups. Check out the website www.doolinlodge.com or call (065) 707 4888/ (065) 707 4877
For cottage rental there's lots to choose from. Here's just a couple www.dreamireland.com or www.tridentholidayhomes.ie
If it's hotel accommodation you're looking for, then we would recommend the Hotel Doolin. A new contemporary, boutique style hotel - www.hoteldoolin.com
There are loads of other B&B's and hotels in Doolin. A quick search on the web will give you lots of options.
15 minutes drive around beautiful Black Head the other side of Fanore is Ballyvaughan. This picturesque village with it's little harbour is a little quieter than Doolin, but still has a good selection of pubs and places to eat. A good family option.
There are no hostels here, just hotels, B&B's and cottage rentals. Like Doolin, a quick search on the web will reveal loads.
